Old GIbson Building

The Omicron chapter at Tulane School of Medicine is the oldest active Phi Chi chapter, charted in December 20, 1902. Today, medical student members reside at their Uptown residence in beautiful New Orleans.

Tulane University’s Phi Chi Omicron is a co-ed medical fraternity that includes students from each medical class and about 11 students live in the chapter house every year. The house is situated three blocks from the undergraduate library, within walking distance to Audubon Park, close to Mardi Gras parade routes, and conveniently located near iconic New Orleans restaurants and bars.

Special house amenities include a heated swimming pool, an outdoor fire pit, ample study spaces, a guest room, craw-boil ingredients and supplies (it’s a Louisiana thing), and a sprawling living room where most of our house members socialize.

Our exceptional Phi Chi Omicron members are involved in both the New Orleans and Tulane communities: they lead student-run clinics, participate in patient education organizations, volunteer at community gardens, conduct bench and qualitative research, speak at national conferences, start medical clinics, sing for Music in Medicine, coordinate student electives, serve in student government, and much more. Omicron medical students often pursue MD/MPH or MD/MBA dual degrees.

Members include current and former house residents — many of whom lived at the house for all four years of their medical school education.

The Phi Chi Omicron chapter is affectionately named the “MedFrat,” and it is the setting of past medical students’ fondest memories. Alumni frequently stop by to revisit their old rooms — not much has changed.

The house is united by their shared love for New Orleans, its citizens, and the music & culture that is unique to The Big Easy.
